Creating Flash Website Design - by WALSAQ

<b>IF/THEN Logic</b>
Flash website design is built in frames (imagine the individual frames of a movie) and is a setup of IF/THEN logic. For example, the design can include a rollover mouse effect, where a button or word lights up when the mouse runs over it. The way a rollover effect is created is by using frames - two pictures of the same button. The first frame is the way you want the button to look originally, the second frame is the way you want the button to look when the mouse is on it.<p>
This is where IF/THEN logic comes into play. IF/THEN logic says, "IF the mouse rolls over this button (or frame a), THEN go to frame b (i.e. the second picture created).<p>
<b>Flash Website Design Programs</b>
Adobe Flash is the most widely used program for flash website design, and quite probably the most powerful to date. While there are other programs available (and some are better than others), most are wizzy-wig programs - what you see is what you get. Though they’ll provide you with a flash page, they won’t provide you with a <i>good</i> page.<p>
<b>Time</b>
Flash website design is all about the pretties - the effects. How much time you spend on your design depends on how much you want to put into it (i.e. animation, effects, etc.). You could spend anywhere from a few hours to several weeks getting the effects you want, especially if you’re just learning.<p>
<b>Skills</b>
Here comes the intricate and somewhat difficult part, otherwise known as "the buggers". Flash website design isn’t just putting pictures together. To build a website correctly, you’ll need to learn some HTML and Action Script coding. If you don’t know what either of those are, you’ve got some work to do. HTML is the basis of most, if not all, web pages - the coding that tells the Internet program what the page should look like.<p>
<b>Pros and Cons</b>
There are some cons to having a fully flash website design:<p>
⢠Flash content is heavier, bulkier, which means it takes longer to load than other types of pages. <p>
⢠A 100% flash page isn’t SEO compatible, which means search engines can’t read the page, the content isn’t searchable and you can’t change your ranking. Generally, these designs are created by embedding pieces of flash into the html coding.<p>
The pro is that the design makes a pretty, smooth, animated website that your customers will wow over. It’s not cost effective to use it on an entire website, but if you decide you want a fully functional flash website design, your best bet is to hire a guru to do the coding for you.<p>

(PRWEB) July 6, 2005 — Agua Design launched its redesigned website today, July 2, 2005 (http://agua-design.com). The website is powered purely by Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). It is also cross-browser compatible due to the popularity of both Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. “CSS really helps cut your site’s code in half,” said Agua President Tracy Heyd. “As a result, when visitors come to our site, the pages will load twice as fast.” The liquid website is optimized for viewing at a screen resolution of 1024×768, but will work on lower resolutions such as 800×600. Liquid layouts will allow the site to be resized according to the screen resolution used. According to surveys, almost thirty percent of computer users still have monitors with resolutions set at 800×600. “We’re always trying to improve our business,” said Agua President Tracy Heyd. “Redesigning the site is just one component of that.” Agua Design specializes in web and interactive design solutions for small businesses. StormFront Development, a Puyallup, Washington based web design studio, has expanded to offer web site critiques and promotion tips. (PRWEB) September 1, 2004 — The ever-changing world of the internet demands a greater attention to detail than marketing campaigns in the past. The typical internet user makes a decision within 30 seconds whether or not they will stay at a website. Because of this, it is critical for business websites to maintain the most up-to-date design techniques. StormFront Development, a web design firm based in Puyallup, Washington, has expanded to offer web site critiques for business web sites. “It has expanded to so much more than building a website and waiting for people to buy.” StormFront owner, Shaun Nestor says, “Consumers are very picky and will not tolerate a poorly designed website.” StormFront Development offers an in-depth look at a client’s website and offers several ways to improve the design of the site. “We look at functionality, accessibility, aesthetics, and presentation.” Nestor says. The service also includes an analysis of a website’s ranking to competitor sites, search engine ranking, keywords, and details that can penalize a website. “Many website owners don’t know it, but the littlest details can cause them to be bumped from page one down to page three of four on the search engine results page. Poor results can make or break a sale.” Nestor says about the service. “We want our client’s website to succeed. We take the time to walk them through the report and offer suggestions to correct the issues we found.” StormFront Development was founded in 1999 by Nestor. StormFront is based in Puyallup, Washington and offers web design, hosting, and critiquing services to many small- to mid-sized businesses in the Puget Sound area. A corporate web site at an affordable price. - by Neil MacLeod

To have a web site which is flexible, professional in design, can have additional functionality added in wherever is needed, is compliant in web development standards and can be controlled by the owner is no longer a corporate reality but is an affordable reality.
By using open source software the cost of such an affordable website has dramatically reduced. Open source software is free, built by an ethically sound and forward thinking community determined to better the functionality of the Internet. Whilst it is free, one should always try help those helping you by donating to open source software so that everybody benefits.
Just because the software is free, this does not mean that the website is free, the web site designer must still have knowledge of the website system and will be able to add a design and functionality tailored to your requirements. Building a website to deliver what you need is never an easy task.
The benefits of using open source software included affordable design changes without disturbing the content. Regular upgrades to improve the speed and security of the web site, additional modules allow a plug in mechanism for additional functionality to improve the use of the website, web site portability, reduced bespoke programming costs and probably most importantly, a support network which can aide in system issues and troubleshooting.
Easy Design Changes
Most open source software systems provide compliant website standards, this invariably means that the content is separated from the presentation giving two main benefits. The first of these is that the web site can provide slick content to be provided to the search engines and secondly since the design is independent of the content then the design of the whole site can be changed more affordably.
Regular upgrades
These open source software systems just grow from strength to strength, the development team expands, new ideas come into play and the software evolves version after version.
Support forums
Support forums of all levels up for the more popular open source solutions and communities develop within them. Whether you want to know how to do something in an administration panel, need help on best practices or require technical information on coding, more often than not, there is an answer for you on one of the many forums by people willing to share information and help you.
Additional functionality
The core functionality of many of the open source software systems is probably more than most people require. But a huge benefit Is the ability to add additional functionality. If there’s something your website needs to do, very likely the more popular open source software has a configurable module or component of some sort with the ability to do it. If it does not then a bespoke coder will be able to do it at an affordable cost, as it is just one part of the site integrating into the central system not a rewrite of everything.
Web site Portability
Being able to move a website between one website company and another without loss of support or “the getting to know the code” time is an excellent facility to have. Because the open source software is known to many of the web design companies, taking a new web site on board would be no problem.
For now and for the future why have the bespoke built web site at a large cost and even larger support costs, as opposed to an affordable flexible system which gives you the power to use the best minds of the Internet at an affordable price, with corporate functionality.
